DSCSA EXEMPTIONS

DSCSA exemptions.
Read the conditions, not just the date.

An exemption is useful only when its scope matches your organization, the requirement and the transaction being considered.

What the current FDA page says.

At the time of this review, FDA lists exemptions from certain requirements for qualifying small dispensers until November 27, 2027. Its definition refers to the owning company having 25 or fewer full-time pharmacists or qualified pharmacy technicians as of November 27, 2026. Read the current FDA page and linked exemption letter for the full scope and conditions.

THE WORK, MADE VISIBLE

Use a regulatory date to plan work, not defer understanding.

Even where a qualifying exemption applies, a team benefits from knowing whether its suppliers provide usable information and whether users can find the relevant product record. The implementation plan can focus on those operational dependencies while the responsible team monitors current FDA conditions.

02 / THE WORKFLOW

Make the review traceable inside your organization.

Keep a record of the source reviewed, its date, the person responsible and the conclusion for your operation. This is a useful evaluation practice even when a vendor presents a deadline in its marketing.

03 / THE WORKFLOW

Use the time to test the operational handoffs.

A defined regulatory timeline does not answer whether supplier data arrives correctly or whether your team can locate the relevant record. Use representative deliveries and exception scenarios to identify the implementation work that remains.
